Adoro – The Coffee Shop To Stay

The Adoro is a true coffee lovers club as the additional name is indicating. It is located right in a pedestrian street on a nice little square next to main square Trieste.

At the entry to the cafè at the square there is its nice little patio with some tables and chairs. Inside the Café Adoro it is light and bright, with white as the dominating color. A very nice ambience all in all.

The staff is friendly and quick and the seating is comfortable, as the Adoro provides sofa chairs.

As for the food, we had a delicious Tramezzino with tuna and salad in a white bread, together with a delicious Cappuccino and a lemon cake filled with lemon cream. Super yummy!

In the show case the Adoro offers many donuts and Italian cookies as well as pastries.

The closing hours is with 21:00 (9:00 pm) a little early but at least on Saturdays the Adoro is open till 22:00 (10 pm). The free WiFi is conveniently working.

I would say the Adoro is an Italian version of Starbucks, comfortable and inviting you to stay also longer.

The Bottom Line: The Adoro, located in the center of Triest, at the end of the long stretched Piazza di Cavana, 5, 34121 Trieste, is a fine coffee shop, elegant and comfortable, providing quality food/pastries and coffee for little money.

Sijf – The Place To Be In Rotterdam’s Old Town

The Sijf (Syf) is a great place to hang out and to enjoy the people passing by, since it is located in a nice little street, a pedestrian promenade in the old town of Rotterdam. It is a Bar and Restaurant and therefore it provides food ranging from sandwiches and toasts to bigger meals and coffees as well as desserts.

The staff is very friendly and willing to help and the whole establishment is built in an artsy decorated old town house with nice stucco and mosaic facade. Its location in the center of Rotterdam makes the Sijf a perfect place from which you can go to the upper part of Rotterdam’s center city as well as down to the old port, with its ships. It is located in the middle of both.

The Cappuccino I had was very delicious served with a shot of cream-topped liquor as a side and a cookie, and the Hot Chocolate is also super-delicious served with a cream-top as well. The prices of both as well as the other prices are reasonable.

Have a look for yourself:

Also the inside of the pub is great, since it features this nice old wood on two floors creating an elegant and stylish atmosphere to spend also a longer stretch of time in this establishment.

And here you can enjoy the photos in the slide show:

The Bottom Line: The Suif located in the Oude Binnenweg 115, is in the center of Rotterdam’s old town. Its ideal location let you be in no time at the port or in the northern part of the center city of Rotterdam. This place is an artsy pub/bar/restaurant with a nice and sunny patio inviting you to watch the people pass by in this pedestrian promenade.

Bar Espresso – A Bar To Remember

The Bar Espresso is a great place at the seaside, on the promenade close to the main square of Trieste. Outside the Café you can sit in the patio and watch the ships go by, the sea as well as the marina close by.

Inside the Café the walls are full of pictures of Trieste and little coat of arms. The pictures show the strength of the Bora in Trieste, and how worse it can get when the Bora, this strong Adriatic wind is descending upon Trieste and large parts of the Slovenian and Croatian coast on the East Coast of the Adria.

The Bora at times can be so strong that people need to hold themselves on ropes put onto the board walks not to get pushed away by the Bora. So be aware of the Bora regardless of on or off the boardwalk.

We had a coffee and a toast, which both were delicious enjoying these in this authentic Trieste local ambience.

Her you can enjoy the slide show:

The Bottom Line: The Bar Espresso, located on the seaside promenade, in the Riva Nazario Sauro 10, 34124 Trieste, Italia, is a great spot to experience the true and authentic Trieste bar feeling, as the owner is a true local and likes to chat with you in Italian.

La Bohème – A Nice Place in Triest

The Café La Bohème in the center of Trieste is a great place. Located directly in the pedestrian zone you can sit at La Bohème’s in the patio where at lunch time even the sun shines onto you in this street in this nice Italian old town.

The staff is friendly and willing to help and the food is great. We had a Diavolu Pizza with hot salami, but it was not hot at all but mild. Regularly the only hot food we eat is hot food in contrast to cold food. The Pizza was great and the ambience as well as we enjoyed the first loads of sunshine in this nice Italian street.

Here you can see it for yourself in the slide show:

California in Budapest in Front of the Saint Stephen’s Basilica

Here at the California Coffee Company you feel the Californian way of life the most, as well as the easy-going and open-minded atmosphere of the westernmost state of the Lower 48 right in the city center of Budapest.

This coffee shop belongs to a Budapest coffee shop chain. And this particular coffee shop on the Szent István tér is located right in front of Budapest’s famous Saint Stephen’s Basilica with perfect view onto the cathedral and many other nice cafés closeby.
The coffee is delicious, the sandwiches too, the seating is comfy, the interior is colorful and the ambience is stylish, because this coffee shop was built into a fancy town house of an aristocrat from the old days of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. That’s the reason for the high ceiling.

You enjoy your food and drinks while looking on a real piano, having free WiFi and all the plugs you need for your devices, and listening to good relaxing music, ranging from Italian, Goa, over  Brazilian, to Lounge music with all kinds of art on the wall, paintings and photos in particular. All in all very artsy and relaxing.

I had a White Chocolate Mocha and a brown-breaded Artisan Capri Bagel. The Black Forest Cappuccino together with a Bagel is also highly recommendable. Veeeeery Delicious! But see it for yourself:

The Elegant Vintage Café Zsivágó in Budapest

The Café Zsivágó is a great vintage café. It is elegant and stylish, located in a townhouse of the Austrian Hungarian Empire. So together with a high ceiling you have this special flair of the old days wherefore here at this coffee shop the artsy people of Budapest gather for good talks. It has two levels connected by stairs and even one niche upstairs. Here at Café Zsivágó you get a chocolate cake and delicious coffee which I had with my cappuccino as well as other drinks. It is worth to mention that this coffee shop is more something to hang out than a place to eat.

As for the seating the Zsivágó provides comfortable vintage chairs and sofas as well as wooden chairs. The latter are not so comfy to sit for a longer stretch of time.
The music played in the background ranges from Funk and Lounge to Jazz. You get much ambience and style for your money here at the Zsivágó. But see it for yourself:

The Pointer Pub Next to Budapest’s Oktogon

The Pointer Pub belongs to a great Budapest English pub chain and therefore there are several Pointer Pubs across the city. This Pointer Pub next to the famous Oktogon square provides high ceilings, two screens with sport footage and even at its rear end, a nice niche with club style sofas and books to read. The staff is friendly and willing as well as able to speak English with you, even with British accent as I experienced.

The food and drinks are great and the seating is comfortable as well as the whole atmosphere. I had a delicious tuna pizza with onions and a Radler, a Shandy (half lemonade, half beer) typical for Britain. But see it for yourself:

The Splendid Ëgoist Café in Budapest

The Ëgoist Café is a jewel located right next to the Ronald Reagan Statue on Budapest’s Liberty Square (Szabadság tér) and the US and British Embassy are around the corner. This secessional café as well as the whole building is part of the House of Hungarian Art Nouveau (Magyar Szecessió Háza), also known as Jugendstil, Modern Style, Stile Floreale etc., this special art style/epoch of the turn of the century (18th/19th century) spreading out from Vienna and the artists of those days (Wiener Secession).

So its playful and artsy style is typical for the region and this period of time in cultural and art history. If you like to have it elegant the Ëgoist Café is the place to be and to spend some time in the ambience of the old days of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire amidst vintage furniture, old books and posters and paintings of Art Nouveau. So it is like a time capsule which preserved the style of the old days for today’s tourists and folks, who enjoy the Jugendstil, the style of the young artists seceding from the old style of and therefore they created art their way more than 100 years ago.

The Ëgoist Café serves delicious cakes and tarts of all kind as well as different coffees. To enjoy your choice surrounded by this elegant ambience is simply marvelous. I had the super delicious Pistachio Cream Tart and also tasted the White Chocolate Tart as well as the Honey Chocolate Tart together with a Café Latte. All of them very delicious as well. But see it for yourself:

The Bottom Line: So you don’t need to be selfish to have a good time at the Ëgoist Café in Budapest nor it will make you an egoist, when you enjoy the true splendor of the old days in this very special Jugendstil café, located in the Honvéd utca 3, in 1054 Budapest, right next to the Ronald Reagan Statue in the center of Budapest.

La Enchilada – The Mexican

This place is great, if you are into Mexican food like me. I am talking about authentic Mexican food. Here at La Enchilada you get authentic Mexican food as I was told by Mexican friends. So I guess they should know that better than anyone else.

If you are lucky and the weather is pleasant I recommend to sit outside in the patio while enjoying your meal.

We had delicious Enchiladas de Maiz con Pollo, which is cheese-topped chicken corn tortillas with bean cream and salad as well as the Enchiladas Combinadas, which is a cheese-topped chicken corn tortilla, a wheat tortilla with chili con carne filling and a wheat tortilla with vegetables filling served with rice, salad and salsa. So if you are more the type of person who need variety, choose the latter. Though this mentioning is relative, I would say that these enchiladas are not super-hot but also not totally mild. So it is something in between. But have a look:

Enchiladas de Maíz con Pollo
enchiladas de maiz con pollo
Enchiladas Combinadas
enchiladas combinadas

The staff is very friendly and also speak English. The prices are reasonable and you get much for your money. The opening hours are also nice since it closes weekdays at 01:00 am and on Fridays and Saturdays at 02:00 am. The only thing is that on weekdays La Enchilada opens late, not before 17:00 (05 pm) but at least on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 (noon).

The Bottom Line: The La Enchilada, located in the Waldstrasse 63, in 76133 Karlsruhe, Germany, is a great place for having authentic Mexican food. And by the way, this place is not unique but part of a chain, so you can experience La Enchilada in many cities all across Germany.
